This will be the quickest, but most important tip you will ever get in your life when it comes to lifting weights in your life. In fact, it may just save your life. No schnitzel.
When lifting heavy weight, do not, I REPEAT, DO NOT attempt to lift without a spotter! It is irresponsible and can result in serious injury or quite possibly lose of life. I had a friend once that thought he did not have to follow the rules of lifting, decide he was going to do chest presses without a spotter. He also was attempting heavier weight than normal, without a spotter. He ended up pinned on the bench under the bar until someone came along and unpinned him. Fortunately he only suffered minor muscle strains to his triceps and bruising on his chest. Don't be a Carl or Karen. Use a spotter. A caveat to that; use a spotter who can lift the same amount or more than you. This concludes your safety brief on proper use of a spotter.

Sports are probably the best way to workout and have fun. There is nothing better to distract you when you are trying to get some cardio in than chasing a ball. What makes sports the best, playing with other people. You are seriously tricking your brain into getting your body into shape when you exercise with others.
Sports also give us tools we can use in our everyday life. Team sports teach team building, or how to play nice with others. If you can work together to get a ball in the net/hoop/over the goal line, then you can problem solve on how to meet work deadlines. Sports also create confidence in individuals. Scoring that goal or assisting on making that shot enforces the feeling that you can accomplish any task. They teach us how to socialize with others and help overcome shyness in social situations. The best part, sports are for everyone! There are literally hundreds to choose from. Not only is there a variety but they aren't just for kids. Many cities and towns across America have teams for adults. Softball, baseball, basketball, soccer. You want to get out and make some new drinking buddies? Join a team or league in the sport of your choice. You have just killed two birds with one stone; you are getting healthy and meeting new people who have similar interests as you. Nice! |
